Empowering the Future: Go Construct STEM Ambassadors

Empowering the Future: Go Construct STEM Ambassadors

At Stairways, our commitment to the construction industry goes beyond manufacturing exceptional staircases and doors – we also take seriously our responsibility to nurture the next generation of professionals, both within our own business and beyond it in the wider construction sector.

So, we are incredibly proud to announce that both Karen Wood, our Joint MD and Owner, and Richard Kowalski, Technical Manager for Doors, have achieved certification as Go Construct STEM Ambassadors. Both have embraced this opportunity to give something back and share their wealth of knowledge to help to inspire and guide young people towards a fulfilling career in our sector.

Being a Go Construct STEM Ambassador is more than just a fancy title. Drawn from diverse construction disciplines, they are the outward looking face of the industry, engaging with young people across the UK, providing invaluable insights from their own experience and opening doors to opportunities.

Karen reflected: “By sharing my personal experiences and insights, and showcasing how interesting, varied, valued and rewarding a career in construction and manufacturing for the construction industry can be, I hope to help motivate the next generation of young men and women.”

Richard’s involvement as a STEM Ambassador is likewise rooted in his deep passion for what he does. He explains: “I have learned so much and gained so much over my 25+ years in door manufacture, so it is a privilege to be able to give something back and help safeguard the future of our sector.”

STEM Ambassadors lead a variety of activities, ranging from running trade stands at career fairs to delivering talks and practical workshops. They play a part in challenging misconceptions around the construction industry, sharing their firsthand knowledge to inspire and build the confidence of young people considering and moving into a career in construction or a related business. It’s also a rewarding opportunity for the ambassadors to hone their own leadership skills, enabling them to better support and develop their own colleagues and teams.

Everyone at Stairways is totally behind Karen and Richard in their new roles as ambassadors and the work they will do to enrich the industry and help shape its future. Watch this space for more updates!
