Labour saving designs – how Stairways makes installation easier
When planning a project, it can be tempting for developers to narrow their focus on the bottom line. But often what looks like a good deal on paper can end up costing more down the line if it requires more time on site to fit, especially using skilled contractors. Selecting products that make installation more streamlined and efficient can be a big win in terms of the ultimate cost of a development.
Not only that, but labour-saving products ease the pressure at the business end of a build, when there are so many moving parts to manage with a multitude of skills and contractors working around each other to tight deadlines.
So, what should you consider to make things run more smoothly?
Compliant and efficient door installation
When it comes to fitting doors in your development you essentially have two options – traditionally hung doors and door sets.
With the former you need to build your frame, architrave and door stops for every door– not to mention recessing and machining of all ironmongery – all of which requires specific skills and adding time to a project.
With the latter you get a lining or frame that is already routed out for hinges, locks and other elements, and the door itself, which comes ready for installation, including ironmongery such as latches, bathroom locks and hinges.
Door sets are far easier and quicker to install, and while many developers will forgo the hassle of traditionally hung doors, not all door sets are created equal!
At Stairways our door sets are made in much the same way as traditional doors and frames, with the same high-quality materials and components – standard, sturdy hinges for example, rather than the ‘clip in’ hinges with which some manufacturers supply their door sets. That ensures the kind of excellence of functionality and finish our clients want – with the added advantage of a far more streamlined and modern mode of installation.
Also, all important is fire door certification. We ensure that not only is the door itself compliant, but also fitted with compatible fire-rated components, working together as a unit as they should. Stairways is also able to specify and design door solutions and co-ordinate a third-party compliance test for a client’s bespoke door configuration. So, when your door set arrives on site, you know it’s safe and compliant.
Secure and steady stairs installation
Getting the stairs in is always a major milestone on a project but the installation can be time consuming.
With that in mind Stairways created EZE-WAYS, our demountable balustrading fixing solution. Designed with speed in mind, this simple system means that in just minutes following a few simple steps, you can have balustrading and handrails that comply with current British Standards compliantly installed.
With this fixing solution, which pulls the handrail tight to the newel, reducing unsightly gaps, installers will no longer have to spend time on compliant traditional fixing methods. It has the advantage of improving on site installation, with limited skills required – and no special tools needed; the install can be done in minutes!
The system is third party tested and accredited, and comes as standard for volume staircases – and best of all is included at no additional cost.
We can also offer as an option RAILSAFE, our own unique Safety Handrail System. Underpinned by our deep understanding of the realities of construction sites, we came up with RailSafe to protect falls from height during the construction phases prior to final balustrading systems being installed.
RailSafe works in tandem with EZE-WAYS, and is interchangeable with final balustrading. It’s easy to use, and easily removable and reusable – we can even offer it colour branded to your organisation for reuse on future projects.
Our Fitability Guarantee
