Walsall College partnership

Walsall College partnership

An Exciting New Partnership…

We’re excited to announce that we have entered into a new partnership with Walsall College. This collaboration is all about sharing our knowledge and expertise to help nurture the next generation of talent!

New Apprentices

As part of this initiative, we welcomed Anthony and Kyle from the college on work experience this month, and our Walsall factory is ready to welcome Level 2 Bench Carpentry and Joinery Apprentices in September. They’ll be immersing themselves into our workplace, learning all about modern woodworking, volume manufacturing and essential workplace skills. They’ll split their time between hands-on experience on the factory floor and training/ coursework at Walsall College.

Beyond Apprenticeships: A Bigger Picture

This partnership isn’t just about apprenticeships. We’re sharing our knowledge and resources with Walsall College to benefit their students in various ways. Our Production Manager Andy Clarke and Managing Director Karen Wood are leading the charge on these projects, which we hope will make a real difference in supporting skills development.

So, for example, students will help create a new table for our Walsall factory boardroom and we’ll provide off-cuts and timber to the college for woodworking practice. We will be sharing our knowledge and facilities to support the training of students undertaking relevant apprenticeships and T-levels. Plus, we’re even designing and making a staircase for the Walsall College building.

This partnership is also being backed by the Construction Industry Training Board, which is getting behind us with skills grants and funding to create more great opportunities for students and apprentices.

All this is an extension of our longstanding commitment in this area. We are also proud to have two Go Construct STEM Ambassadors on the team – Karen Wood, our Joint MD & Owner, and Richard Kowalski, Technical Manager for Doors, who share their expertise and experience to help inspire young people considering a career in our sector.

Inspiring the next generation

With all our years in the industry, we know how vital real-world experience is in developing skills. By providing a supportive work environment, where students and apprentices can learn from seasoned professionals, we can help Walsall College ensure they gain the practical skills that are essential for their future careers.

This partnership is all about investing in young talent and fostering a culture of growth – something we’re passionate about at Stairways as our long history of developing apprentices demonstrates – our very own Andy Clarke, Production Manager, Walsall, among them, having started as an apprentice at 16.

And, as well as our incoming apprentices, we already have other apprentices working in the business building their skills, knowledge and confidence to take them forward, as they contribute their invaluable work to our teams.

This new partnership with Walsall College highlights our commitment to industry excellence and the importance of education and hands-on training. Through it, we are excited to be able to inspire and support many more young people, ensuring a bright future for our industry.
